I was debating on weather to do a special episode on this or a post. I decided on the latter because honestly it has me annoyed and there are times where I do better in getting what I’m talking about in written form. So here we go.
Last night I was on Twitter when I saw a hashtag called Disflix (I was a little hesitant to link to the website, but decided to anyway). Since I was curious, I decided to click on it and was a bit appalled at what I saw. It’s calling itself the Disney Parks version of Netflix. For $10 a month, people would get from what I gather for right now is Disney World content. There would also be a Periscope for subscribers and classes on Disney planning. This annoys me greatly considering there are many great vlogggers out there who are doing this out of their own pocket and putting the videos up for free on YouTube. Heck even Disney itself has some free Vacation Planning dvds that you can send away for.
As you expect, the reaction has been quite negative.
Of course there are going to be people who are going to defend this new company, which is fine. However there have been several people who have pointed out that it’s actually against Disney Park rules to film for profit without permission in the parks.
Before you say, oh Rachel you have a sponsorship area? Isn’t that basically asking for money too? Yes… but I’m also not making any money off of my content that I’m putting out. Any sponsorship money that comes into the show goes directly back into the show. Thus giveaways can happen again and I can pay the hosting fees. Also I’m not doing this directly in the parks where as Disflix is. Not to mention their logo looks very similar to the Netflix logo when you look at it closely (although that may have to do with the type that they could have bought to make the logo… or their graphic designer that is). I have a poll up (it closes tonight) on weather or not you think Disflix will fail (although at this time of writing the website is still up, they did remove their Twitter account)
Will Disflix fail?

As for what you could do with the $10? Well just look at this tweet.

Stay tuned for more details about this coming as I will keep up on this story as it continues to develop.
Note: 4:59 pm EDT Disflix has released a statement saying they are not going to go forward with the project. I will be talking about this a bit on Monday’s show.
